18+ Transition into Adulthood and Own accommodation
Moving from semi-independent to their own tenancy is a critical time for any person given that at present the average age within this country of a young person/adult moving into their own accommodation is mid to late twenties. The majority of young people transitioning into adulthood from the looked after system have complex backgrounds and may have faced traumas associated within their early years that may have interrupted and had an impact on their emotional and social development. In addition, some young people at this age will be at a vital stage within their education and training and the increased pressure of young people having to source an appropriate property, appropriate benefits, secure tenancy arrangement and agreements could increase their stress and vulnerability factors.
Wynspire will work with these young people to ensure a smooth transition into adulthood and the responsibility of holding their own tenancy, other obligations and commitments. We will work with a young person to source appropriate accommodation and ensure that there is a testing period for a young person up to their first six months of signing a tenancy agreement with us.
Our service will include:
- Helping the young person locate suitable property within their desired locality. The tenancy will be in the name of the young person. The bond will be the responsibility of the young person. Social Care may need to assist with this.
- Assistance with their application for housing benefits.
- Support them for a period of up to 6 months to ensure they are able to maintain their tenancy along with any other support needs.
